Firefighter training to close portion of Fishing Creek Road this Saturday
CLINTONDALE — Training for firefighters at a vacant home along Fishing Creek Road on Saturday will mean a portion of that road in Porter Township will be closed for a good part of the day.
The Nittany Valley Volunteer Fire Co. based in Lamar is coordinating training for a number of firemen this week, culminating in the burning of a private but unoccupied home in the 600 block of Fishing Creek Road starting after 8 a.m. Saturday, said Shawn Etters, Nittany Valley’s assistant chief.
That section of road is just west of where Heltman Road intersects Fishing Creek Road.
Etters said a number of fire company units and volunteers will be on hand and they’ll start out by burning sections of the structure to train firefighters.
With no municipal water system, firemen will use tankers.
Kevin Frank, fire police captain and a Lamar Township supervisor, said Fishing Creek Road will be closed at Heltman Road to the east and Clintondale Hill Road to the west, save for any local property owners.
He said there will be no through-traffic from 8 a.m. until at least 3 p.m., with the road barricaded for safety reasons as per the township board of supervisors.
