JS cheerleaders raising money for trip to London
JERSEY SHORE — These three cheerleaders can’t wait until Christmas is over this year.
That’s because they will be leaving on Dec. 26, the day after Christmas, on an adventure of a lifetime.
They are Jersey Shore High School varsity cheerleaders and they have been selected to participate in the Varsity All-American London Tour from Dec. 26 through Jan. 2.
The trip includes participation in the Varsity Spirit Parade on New Year’s Day in London.
Portia Williams, Emily Liddick and Skyelar Kimble are all excited about this opportunity.
But they know that it will take more than excitement to get them there.
The cost is $3,025 per girl…that’s $9,075 for all three to make the round trip.
Of course family members are doing what they can, but that’s a lot of money.
So the girls are fundraising.
One fundraiser is a Primitive Bingo on Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Wayne Township Fire Hall in McElhattan.
At the Bingo the girls will also be taking a collection for the Caleb Leone family. Caleb suffered a serious brain injury during football practice last month and is a patient in the brain trauma rehabilitation center at Hershey.
The girls say donating to the Leone family is their way of giving back to a fellow classmate. Caleb is also a senior at Jersey Shore High School. Anyone who donates at bingo will receive 10 free raffle tickets.
For tickets to the Primitive Bingo, call 570-337-8279. Information on making a monetary donation can also be given at that phone number.
Portia, 17, is the daughter of Mike and Rhiannon Knapp; Emily, 18, is the daughter of Mark and Amy Liddick and Skyelar, 17, is the daughter of Gwen Arnold and Jarred Kimble.
Their coach is Heather Griffiths.
