AVIS — Walnut Street Christian School honored its many donors on Friday, Sept. 7 with a new memorial wall and patio at its soccer field behind Avis Building Supply.

Names of those who have donated in the past to the school are listed on both the stone wall as well as etched into some of the bricks on the patio.

Steve and Linda Bianchi, who donated money in honor of their son Joseph, and Charles Bertin, whose mother Anna McConnell was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church and an avid donor, were given the honor of unveiling the new structure.

This is the third year the soccer field has been used and, thanks to Jersey Shore State Bank, it now has a brand-new scoreboard.

“They (JSSB) love to give back to the community and have a longtime relationship with Walnut Street Christian School,” bank representative Jessica Pennings said.

Pastor Tim Longnecker, school principal, thanked all those who helped make the school what it is today. That included the help needed in creating the soccer field.

He mentioned the many hours in the hot summer sun, as well as in cold winter months, that volunteers spent creating a space where WSCS’s students could hold their soccer games.

“God gave us a vision,” he said about the soccer field. And, he said, he, the students and the rest of the staff at WSCS are glad to see it come together.

He also thanked JSSB for the donation of the scoreboard.

It was exciting when the bank offered to donate the scoreboard in 2014, he said.

WSCS founder Pastor George Grossman and athletic director Pastor Jeff Howell also said a few words, expressing their thanks.

“Thank you all for putting our lives out here” in the school’s own home field, Pastor Grossman said.

Pennings was given the honor of turning on the scoreboard for the first time. He did so to the sound of cheers.
