JERSEY SHORE — A southern Clinton County company that manufactures a variety of stone veneer has been approved for expansion by county planners.

On Tuesday night, the county Planning Commission approved a land development plan in Crawford Township for Seyler Enterprises Inc.

Seyler plans to build a 4,640-square-foot metal building at 178 Groupe Road that will allow the privately held firm to double its production.

Seyler Enterprises is owned and operated by Gerald and Amy Seyler, according to the firm’s web site. The company describes itself as a “family oriented business.”

Jerry Seyler is involved with the natural stone industry and is a standing member of the Allied Stone Industries (ASI).

The company makes and sells a variety of products suitable for both interior and exterior settings.”

“Besides our own local products, we make available numerous building and landscaping stones from all over the United States, plus China and India.”

The commission the company’s plans on Oct. 9 from engineer Dennis Norman of Avis, on behalf of Gerald Seyler.

“We are constructing a new stand-alone building that will double the production capabilities of the facility,” Norman told the commission. “That is the essence of the project, along with a significant water re-use facility.”

Other intended improvements include a concrete collection tank for storm-water detention, along with a driveway, more parking and utilities.

“The plan adds handicapped-accessible parking spots, which were not there before, along with adding a few more spots in general. We will have a total of 12 spaces plus two that are van accessible.

“The storm-water tank is a very good use of rain water. It is not easy to keep enough well water to keep the operations going. The design has a spring that runs into it. It will catch and use a lot of water,” Norman explained.

The firm owns 234 acres at the site, which also contains a two-story stone house, a wooden barn, a metal agricultural building and various small sheds and out-buildings. All new development will take place on the south side of Groupe Road.

The project site is not in a flood zone and no wetlands are present, it was noted.

The post-construction storm-water management and erosion and sedimentation plans have been submitted to the county Conservation District.

The site is subject to the Crawford Township Zoning ordinance, but the county planning commission has final approval over Crawford Township development.

The existing use of the parcel is residential, commercial, light industrial, woodland, and agricultural, but the site is currently zoned agricultural, according to Katie de Silva, director of the county planning office.

Stone product manufacturing is not a permitted use in the district, but an Aug. 16 special exception use hearing before the Crawford Township Zoning Hearing Board approved the expansion of the non-conforming use “without conditions,” according to Norman.

“With the expansion of the facilities, we expect to be making a few hires in the future. Right now, we have about seven employees. After the project is complete, we are expecting about 10,” he noted.
