MILLHEIM — The Millheim Fire Company was called to the scene of an accident involving a small pickup truck and an Amish buggy, at approximately 10 a.m. on Friday, in the area of 4857 Penns Valley Road.

The truck, driven by Clayton Kline of Middleburg, was traveling east on Route 45, when it struck the rear end of the buggy causing it to flip over on its side, according to Millheim Fire Chief Delmer Homan.

Two people in the buggy — 47-year-old Ruth King, and her 5-year -old daughter, of Spring Mills, were injured, Homan said. King and the child both sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Mount Nittany Hospital by Centre Life Link Ambulance, Homan said.

Kline was examined by medics, but declined treatment.

The horse was reported as having no injuries.

Kline told Chief Homan that the bright mid-morning sun blinded him, causing him to hit the buggy.

In addition to the Millheim Fire Company, troopers from the Rockview State Police, as well as EMS and fire police from Miles Township Fire Company, and paramedics from Pleasant Gap Medics, responded to the scene.
