Removal of Dead Ash Trees at Zindel Park

LOCK HAVEN — As part of a cooperative wildlife habitat improvement project with the Lock Haven City Authority and the City of Lock Haven, The Pennsylvania Game Commission scheduled the removal of dead ash trees in the area of Zindel Park on the Lock Haven Watershed. Those trees were attacked by the Emerald Ash Borer, a foreign pest native to Asia, and are deceased.

Trees that are in the proximity to high use trails will be removed in the interest of safety of trail users. Some standing dead ash trees will be left intact to function as snag trees and den trees for wildlife.

The tree removal contractor is Josh Hobbins Forestry, and removal work has begun.

During this removal process, portions of the Zindel Park area will be closed to the public in the interest of safety.

Trail users should not proceed beyond the barricades, and should stay clear of any active work areas to ensure their safety.
