Another one bites the dust

CHRIS MORELLI/THE EXPRESS

Demolition of the historic Town Tavern in downtown Lock Haven is underway. The city bought the long vacant and condemned building last September from David Mayes with the intent to raze it. A section of the roof was caved in. Masters Excavating LLC of Lock Haven was hired to demolish both the tavern and the adjoining Kennedy property at the cost of $52,797. The company is using the vacant lot next door that used to house Heilig Myers as a base of operation during the demolition. That building was destroyed in an unsolved fire and then also taken over by the city. The section of sidewalk along Bellefonte Avenue in front of the tavern is closed by fencing until the demolition is done.
