LOCK HAVEN — Last weekend 2018 Clinton County Fair Queen McCartney Register placed in the top five in the Pennsylvania State Fair Competition held in Hershey.

She competed alongside 59 young women representing their county and community agricultural fairs from across the state during the three-day competition.

Each contestant presented a speech highlighting her fair’s unique traditions and events, an essay about the fair’s significance in her community, and gave a stage introduction at the convention’s annual banquet.

The contest’s judges also interviewed queens.

Five finalists were chosen and given an impromptu question relating to how a queen could use her platform to promote agriculture.

McCartney was among the five chosen to answer this question on stage.

The contestants were evaluated on public speaking skills and knowledge of fairs and the agriculture industry, as well as on poise and personal presentation.

The task of a county queen is to educate and promote a greater public understanding and awareness of agriculture and its importance to the growth of a healthy and thriving Pennsylvania.

“I personally am thankful to the Clinton County Fair board for their support and the untold number of volunteer hours they pour into our community,” McCartney said. “The board, 4-H leaders and fair volunteers have been exceptional role models for me and continue to be for our local youth. I am proud to be a resident of Clinton County and appreciate every opportunity I am given to serve as a representative for my home town.”
