Vicki Wedler seeks nomination for commissioner

Vicki Wedler

Vicki Wedler has announced she is seeking the Republican nomination for Centre County commissioners in the May 21 primary election.

Wedler previously served 12 consecutive years (three four-year terms), as Centre County commissioner — 1988 through 1999.

Vicki said she loves public service and believes her experience and dedication to wanting to make a difference in the lives of others can best serve the people of Centre County as a commissioner.

She was the first woman elected a Centre County commissioner in its 36-year history, and also the first woman president of the Susquehanna Economic Development Association-Council of Governments (SEDA-COG), an 11-county service region.

As one of three chief policy makers of Centre County, Vicki said she brings her previous experience of having served for those 12 years as a county conservation district director, member of the board of assessment and revision of taxes, the retirement board, prison board, county library board, chairman of the county board of elections and director of the Moshannon Valley Economic Development board, board member of the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County, and the Bellefonte-Intervalley Chamber of Commerce.

Before entering public service, she had a career in industry at Corning Glass Works, Agricultural Education at Penn State, West Penn Power, with the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and is now a licensed realtor with Kissinger Bigatel & Brower.

Vicki has worked hard and continuously for many charitable and civic organizations in the county. She served as president of the Centre County unit of the American Cancer Society and started the first Relay for Life fundraiser in Centre County, which continues today.

She and her husband live in Ferguson Township and have a blended family of four children and eight grandchildren.
