LOCK HAVEN — These Clinton County Special Olympic athletes are part of the Team USA competing at the World Games in Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates.

The group left with a big send off from the Little League Headquarters in Williamsport on March 6, going by bus from Williamsport to Newark, N.J. to meet up with the rest of Team USA, which includes athletes from all over the United States.

After spending the night in New Jersey, they were bused to JFK with a police escort to fly to Abu Dhabi. They had a charter flight non stop on Etihad Airways.

Upon their arrival they were guests for the first few days in Dubai, their host town, before going to Abu Dhabi to start competition.

The volleyball team played preliminary games Tuesday and Wednesday. The teams that they played were UAE, India, South Korea and Jamaicia. They won three of four sets Tuesday and two of four sets Wednesday. They also gave South Korea their first loss of the competition.

The opening ceremonies were held Thursday and then they compete until they leave to come home on March 23.
