Special Olympians reach the medal round

The Clinton County Hawks volleyball team finished up their pool play on Sunday and have compiled a record of 6 and 2, sending them into the medal round, which begins today.

The news came via text from Abu Dhabi — site of the Special Olympics World Games — to Clinton County Special Olympics Manager Larry Rupert.

The Clinton County team has a bye today and will play the winner of today’s game between Bharat and United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.

Their game on Sunday against the United Arab Emirates was televised world wide on ESPN3 and Clinton County won 25 to 7 and 25 to 18.

The Wednesday game will be their last. Win, and they get the Gold, lose and they come away with the Silver.

Either way, “a great finish for a small town team on the World Stage,” Rupert said. The team will return home on Saturday the 23rd.
