Bellefonte opens streets for healthy community event

BELLEFONTE — Mount Nittany Health and a number of downtown Bellefonte businesses will be holding the first Open Streets Bellefonte healthy community event, made possible, in part, by a generous donation from Northwest.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in downtown Bellefonte.

Open to all ages and fitness levels, the event will create “paved parks” on parts of Allegheny and High streets, temporarily closing them to motorized vehicle traffic and opening to human traffic on foot, bike, scooter and more. Activity hubs will focus on activities like dancing, yoga, aerobics, and hula hooping, and incorporate other wellness-themed activities like nutritional education, to engage individuals and families in healthy activities, while building community connections.

Two highly anticipated activity hubs to be included in the day’s events are the Ultimate Ninja Warrior Challenge and a rodeo playground. On the Ninja Warrior course, participants work their way through the challenge like their favorite TV warriors, leaping side-to-side on the quadruple steps, on their way to the rock-climb steps and on to the deck above. From there, they grab the trapeze swing and fly over to the cargo net, and make their way across the slack line to the famous warped wall, where they can grab a flag for victory. The rodeo playground features western-themed bounce play for children 10 years old and younger.
