Chinook helicopters land at Fly-In
Two CH-47F Chinook helicopters landed at Piper Memorial Airport Friday afternoon during the Sentimental Journey Fly-In, giving visitors a chance to look inside the huge twin-engined, tandem rotor, heavy-lift aircraft. The CH-47F Chinook is the Army’s only heavy-lift cargo helicopter supporting combat and other critical operations. The CH-47F tactically transports forces and associated equipment and provides routine aerial sustainment of maneuver forces. Secondary missions the Chinook executes to support soldiers and commanders include: medical evacuation, search and rescue, parachute drops, disaster relief and aircraft recovery. Staff Sgt. Matt Donato said they flew in from Fort Indiantown Gap. Each helicopter includes a minimum crew of three — two pilots and one flight engineer, he said.
