‘Grief and mourning of cancer’ is topic of support group

LOCK HAVEN — “The Grief and Mourning of Cancer” will be the topic at the next session of the Cancer Support Group on Thursday, June 13 at 7 p.m. in Conference Room B of Susque-View.

Grief is often associated with the loss of a loved one but it applies to any significant loss, including cancer. Cancer is responsible for a multitude of losses in the life of the person diagnosed with this often life-threatening disease. This session will help individuals learn how to mourn these losses in a healthy way and return to a full and purposeful life. The group will review an article from Coping magazine that will look at the many forms mourning can take as well as an essay by a cancer survivor on what cancer taught her.

The Cancer Support Group is facilitated by Fran Decker, MSW and hosted by Susque-View. The program is free and open to anyone who has a diagnosis of cancer, both newly diagnosed and long-time survivors. Family members and friends are also welcome.

The group meets the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in Conference Room B of Susque-View. For more information about the support group, call Fran Decker at 570-748-4302.
