Volunteers sought to hang ‘Hero’ banners

LOCK HAVEN – Downtown Lock Haven Inc. is seeking volunteers to help with its 2019 Hometown Hero Banner campaign.

Specifically, people are needed to take down old banners for cleaning and to hang new banners.

The agency has schedule an organizational meeting for 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the downtown office at 205 E. Main St., across from The Texas.

The campaign culminates the morning of Saturday, Aug. 3, with a formal ceremony on the floating stage at the J. Doyle Corman Amphitheatre, where there will be speakers, a small orchestra and special dignitaries, along with the unveiling of banners.

Volunteers are asked to call the downtown office at 570-748-1576 to sign up to help.

The plan is to have all new and re-hung banners placed no later than July 30.

Volunteers can expect to climb or hold 10-foot-tall ladders and use tools to unfasten banners and to fasten new ones. Gloves are recommended.

The office, meanwhile, continues to accept sponsorships to rehang old-previous banners.

Rehangs are $50.

All proceeds benefit the nonprofit, which works to enhance community and economic development in the city business district.
