LOGANTON — The Sugar Valley Volunteer Fire Company plans on doing a complete renovation of their existing fire house beginning in the late Spring of 2020. The new building will be approximately 80- by 100- feet, and two stories high. The lower half will house the company’s EMS supplies, fire trucks, and other rescue associated apparatus. The upper level will be the home to a new banquet room that will be used for fire company fundraising events, and as a community rental space. The banquet facilities are projected to hold up to 350 people.

To assist with the cost of the new facility, two Loganton area high school seniors are dedicating their senior projects to the cause.

The first of the two fundraisers is tonight, at the Sugar Valley Fire Company, when Julie Harris, who attends Central Mountain High School, hosts an Italian buffet with all you can eat lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, seafood fettuccine, macaroni and cheese with ham, as well as tossed salad, garlic bread, and gourmet cupcakes. Dinner also includes iced tea and coffee. The cost of the dinner is $13 for adults; $7 for ages 7-12; and kids 6 and under eat for free. The hours of Julie’s dinner are from 4-7 p.m. with takeouts available.

Next Saturday, August 31, Central Mountain senior, Kyler Miller will be serving up steak and potatoes at his fundraising dinner. Included with each dinner is a “cooked to order” 12 ounce ribeye steak, baked potato, salad bar, dessert;, iced tea and coffee. The cost of the steak dinner is $15 per dinner. For children, or those who do not eat steak, there will be $5 chicken fingers and fries baskets available. Kyler’s benefit dinner runs from 4-7 p.m. with takeouts available.

Julie is the daughter of John and Kristy Harris, of East Valley Road, and Kyler is the son of Chris and Tanya Miller of Loganton.

Both Julie and Kyler grew up with parents involved in the Sugar Valley Fire Company. Julie’s Mom, Kristy, has been active in the rescue squad for years as an emergency medical technician, and Kyler’s Dad, Chris, is the Assistant Chief of the fire company.

Julie’s Mom Kristy has been active in the rescue squad for years as an emergency medical technician, and has inspired her daughter to give back to the fire company through her senior project. “This is such an important project to me because I see all of the hard work that my Mom, and the en tire fire company, put forward to help the community,” said Julie. “The construction of the community center and new fire company building is important because it will provide a place for the people of Sugar Valley to have their events. And as far as the fire hall goes, building a new, dedicated area for the trucks will make it easier for the fire fighters to respond to call-outs since the vehicles, and equipment will remain in the same place at all times, and never have to be moved for dinners or other events.”

Kyler, who is a Junior Firefighter at the Sugar Valley Fire Company, said that doing a fundraiser for Station 13 was important to him because belonging to the Sugar Valley Fire Company himself has been an amazing experience. “It is an amazing brotherhood and sisterhood at the fire company,” he said. “Dad has been an officer ever since I can remember, and I have been going to to the fire hall since I was born. Because of this, obviously this project is important to me, and the fire hall is important to the future of this community, so I really hope that we can raise some good money to help this building be put up.”

The Sugar Valley Fire Company is located at 24 W. Anthony St., Loganton.
