Deadline is Feb. 10 to register for Elk Hunt
KARTHAUS — The fourth annual Elk Antler SHED hunt organized by Quehanna Industrial Development Corporation (QIDC) is scheduled Feb. 10 through May 26 in the Pennsylvania Elk Management Area. Sheds must come from the wild elk herd, not a game farm or preserve.
Registration fee is $10. Hunters must be a member of QIDC. If you are not a member now, you can apply for membership when you register for the hunt. Membership fee is $5.
Registrations will be accepted by mail until Feb. 5. A representative of QIDC will be at the Quehanna Motor Lodge, 818 Quehanna Highway, Karthaus, on the following dates and times to register participants — Jan. 14, 21, 28 and Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registrations will not be taken after Feb. 10. The hunt will end at 11 a.m. on May 26.
Official check in for found sheds will start at 11 a.m. and end at 1 p.m., May 26 at the Pottersdale Community Park. Participants that are registered and found antlers must be the person that will have the antlers scored. No exceptions.
Feeding and baiting the wild elk in Pennsylvania is prohibited by law. Do not feed or bait the elk to try to keep them in that area you are watching. If caught, you will be cited by the Game Commission and disqualified from the hunt.
Prizes will be awarded for the largest score, which will be 58 percent of the taken fee. We will donate one percent to the Keystone Elk Country Alliance, QIDC will get one percent to help pay promotion of the event and the expenses incurred to organize the event. The remaining amount will be divided equally with registered participants who found sheds and checked them in.
This is a very exciting event for the entire family, young or old, said Ray Savel, president of QIDC.
