Forest walk planned
Oct. 7 in Hyner
HYNER — The Sproul State Forest Walk will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, with participants meeting at 10 a.m. at Donut Hole Trailhead, Hyner Run State Park.
The walk is 4.7 miles and is a moderately strenuous family hike.
People friendly pets are allowed on leash.
Highlights of the trek are a vista, Log road hollow, bridges built by KTA, regeneration cut, old logging road and gas well.
Leaders are forester Lin Greenaway and retired district forester Robert Merrill.
Hikes scheduled in Slate Run
SLATE RUN –Two hikes are scheduled on Saturday, Oct. 14, in the Tiadaghton State Forest.
Hikers interested in the traditional Slate Run Ramble should meet at the DCNR parking lot at Tomb Flats around 8:45 a.m. and be prepared to depart for the hike at 9 a.m.
On this hike, Ben Sands will lead hikers up the Quarry Mountain Trail, out the Dragon’s Back and return via the Golden Eagle Trail and the Pine Creek Rail Trail. The approximate distance for this hike is 8.5 miles. Please be prepared to spend the majority of the day on the trail. It is highly recommended that hikers bring a lunch or snacks and plenty of water for the hike.
Hikers interested in a shorter hike can join Rich Hill for a hike on the Bob Webber Trail (approximately 3.5 miles). The hike on the Bob Webber trail will begin at 10 a.m. Hikers should gather at the Ross Run Parking area at 9:45 a.m. Both hikes are considered difficult, but hikers will be rewarded with excellent views of the fall foliage.
