LOCK HAVEN — The Penn State Master Gardeners of Clinton County have undertaken a new project, their first-ever Holiday Greens sale.

They are taking orders for fresh, local greens, such as fir, pine, and boxwood as well as winterberry branches with bright red berries; an assortment of pine cones, and a variety of other natural materials including dried flowers, birch branches, and grapevine.

In conjunction with the sale, they are sponsoring workshops which will focus on making centerpieces, swags, wreaths, ornaments, and other holiday decorations using materials found in nature. Workshops are offered free-of-charge to those who purchase materials through the Master Gardener Holiday Greens Sale.

Order forms are now available at https://extension.psu.edu/holiday-greens-sale or by calling the Penn State Extension Office in Clinton County at 570-726-0022. The 2018 order form includes detailed descriptions of the greens and other materials available as well as a workshop schedule and registration information.

Holiday greens orders will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last. The Master Gardeners recommend submitting orders as early as possible.

Orders can be picked up at the Master Gardener Holiday Greens Sale and Workshops on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Penn State Extension Office’s new location at 232 E. Main St., Lock Haven.

Holiday decorations workshops will also be held on Dec. 1 and will be taught by Christine Fink, American Institute of Floral Designers, Barbara Hall of the Jersey Shore Garden club, and Master Gardener Debra Burrows.

Workshops will focus on creating swags, wreaths, centerpieces, and other arrangements. Additional supplies, including floral foam, wire, tape, ribbon, greens, etc. will be available for purchase on the day of the workshops.

Registrations are being accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis and each workshop is limited to 15 participants, so those interested are encouraged to register early.

In addition to holiday greens, Master Gardeners will offer a selection of bows, handmade gift items, and decorations as part of the sale.

They are also happy to announce the availability of the 2019 Pennsylvania Master Gardener Calendar, a beautiful 12-month calendar featuring photography from Master Gardeners around the state and a gardening “to do” list for each month.

It makes a very nice gift and is listed on the Holiday Greens order form. It will also be available at the sale on Dec. 1, while supplies last.
