LITTLE PINE STATE PARK

Saturday, April 27, programs at Little Pine State Park include a program on the Bald eagles that have been nesting at the park since 2004. This year we know we have at least two hatchlings. Binoculars and spotting scopes will be available for use during the program, and you are welcome to stay afterwards to continue viewing on your own. This will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Eagle Watch Area.

At 1:30 p.m. the program “Introduction to Fly-tying” will be held at the nature center, in the lower floor of the park office. This is intended for children ages 12 and up. Due to the limited amount of equipment, this will be limited to 12 people, on a first-come, first-served basis. All equipment and supplies are provided.

Friday, May 24, 8 p.m. weekly coffee break. This is an informal question and answer period and general chat session. Coffee, tea and iced tea will be provided, but please bring your own cup. This will be followed at 9 by movie “Bugs of the Underworld.” Both programs will be at the amphitheater.

Sunday May 26, at 3 p.m. there will be a “Basic Fishing Skills” program for people who have never been fishing before. We will cover equipment, knots, casting techniques, fish identification, safety, and PFBC regulations. Time is allotted for fishing after the presentation, and no license will be needed. Sunday is a PFBC designated “Fish for Free Day.” Equipment will be available on loan until 6 p.m. This program is limited to 15 people, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Monday, May 27 at 1 p.m. there will be a DiscoverE program for children ages 6 through 12. This will be on fish identification, and will be at the upstream end of the beach. The nature center, located in the lower floor of the office building, will be open Friday 3 to 6 p.m. and Monday 2 to 5 p.m.

HYNER RUN STATE PARK

Saturday, May 26 programs include a program at 5 p.m. on the Brook trout as an environmental indicator. This will include information on the fish and examining their habitat. At 7:30 p.m. there will be a program for children about dragonflies and damselflies, followed at 9 by the movie “Bugs of the Underworld.” All programs will be at the building between the swimming pool and the day use parking lot. Please bring some type of seating for the movie.
