Environmental Programs at Little Pine and Hyner Run State Parks

WATERVILLE — For the weekend of Aug. 9 – 11, the environmental programs at Little Pine and Hyner Run State Parks will focus on a variety of topics.

The programs on Friday and Sunday will be at Little Pine, and those on Saturday will be at Hyner Run and Hyner View.

Friday evening at 8 is the weekly coffee break. This is an informal question and answer period and general chat session. Coffee, tea, and iced tea will be provided, but please bring your own cup. This will be followed at 9 by a program on the Perseid meteor shower. Meet at the gate at the top of the dam for this program. In case of cloud cover, the movie “Planets of the Sun” will be shown at the amphitheater at 9:30.

Saturday’s programs include “The Rain Stick” at 5 p.m. Rain sticks have been used by many cultures, for different purposes. Each family will have the opportunity to make a rain stick to take home. This will be followed at 7:30 by “Introduction to GPS”. Units will be provided. These two programs will be behind the building between the swimming pool and the pool parking lot. At 9, weather permitting, there will be a program and public viewing of the Perseid meteor shower. This will be at the overlook at Hyner View State Park.

Sunday at 1 p.m., there will be a children’s DiscoverE program outside the beach house. This is intended for children ages nine and up and will be about planispheres.

The nature center, located in the lower floor of the office building, will be open Friday 3 to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m.

If you need an accommodation to participate in park activities due to a disability, please contact the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks at 1-888-PA-PARKS (voice), 717-558-2711 (local or international voice), or 711 (AT&T Relay Services). With at least three days’ notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
