Husband charged in fire that killed estranged wife

DUQUESNE (AP) – A western Pennsylvania man has been charged with homicide and arson after police say he admitted setting a fire that killed his estranged wife.

Police say 46-year-old James Karr told them he knocked 56-year-old Maureen Karr unconscious, tied her up, poured vodka on her and lit it around 1 a.m. Tuesday in Duquesne.

Maureen Karr filed court documents Dec. 15 claiming her husband had threatened to burn down her home.

A hearing on the protection-from-abuse order she requested had been scheduled for Monday but was postponed until Jan. 7 when James Karr had a seizure while in court.

Police say James Karr alluded to drastic action on his Facebook page. He posted that since he wasn’t getting his wife back, he’d take his own life.

He’s jailed without bail.
