Man sentenced for secretly filming sex with girlfriend

BELLEFONTE – John Ross Kent, 51, of Treasure Lake, Clearfield County, was sentenced to serve 3 to 6 years in a state correctional facility, plus 4 years consecutive probation for three counts of criminal trespass, one count of stalking, and 15 counts of invasion of privacy, Centre County District Attorney’s office said in a release Friday.

The sentencing was handed down by the Honorable Judge Jonathan D. Grine on Thursday, following a non-jury trial held last November, where Kent was found guilty of all charges.

Charges arose when Kent began secretly video-taping and photographing his former girlfriend during intimate sexual encounters repeatedly, without the consent or knowledge of the girlfriend.

During such an encounter, the girlfriend caught him taping her, ended the relationship and told him to leave, before reporting his actions to the State College Police.

While investigating, it was discovered that Kent broke into the victim’s home after she ended the relationship, and once inside, he took photographs of her personal belongings. Hundreds of photos and three videos of secretly recorded intimate events were found on Kent’s cell phone.

Many of the photographs were taken after Kent was told to leave the woman’s house, and some were taken from outside her window, where he was peering in at her while she slept on the couch.

“This case is a shocking example of a stalker invading a woman’s sense of privacy and personal security. We are pleased that the victim can turn the page on this and feel safe,” said District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller.
