Benner inmate guilty of spitting on officer
BELLEFONTE — A Centre County jury found Montana Bell, 24, guilty of aggravated harassment on Monday.
The charge was aggravated harassment by a prisoner, a third-degree felony, according to the Centre County district attorney’s office, and it was filed by Trooper Brian Wakefield of the state police at Rockview after an incident at the State Correctional Institution at Benner Township on April 4.
The D.A.’s office gives this account of the incident: During an escort, Bell became aggressive and confrontational and threatened the corrections officer. Other officers were brought in to attempt to diffuse the situation, but Bell continued being belligerent and using vulgar language to make threats toward the officers. He also spit in an officer’s face, striking him in his eye with saliva.
Bell will be sentenced Nov. 29 in front of Judge Katherine V. Oliver who presided over the trial.
