JS man jailed after high speed chase
WILLIAMSPORT — Austin Grossnickle, 29, of Jersey Shore, was taken to Lycoming County Prison after a high speed chase that began at about 9 a.m. on Oct. 17, state police at Montoursville said.
Police noticed Grossnickle driving at an excessive rate of speed — reaching 113 miles per hour — on 180 East. and proceeded to the Faxon exit.
Grossnickle proceeded to the Faxon exit and then backtracked to 180 East and proceeded to Warrensville exit, and onto Old Montoursville Road, police said. He then made a right hand turn onto Canfields Lane and continued onto Greevey’s Road, where he passed the Greevey boat launch and traveled west onto the bike path, police said.
The vehicle pursuit ended when Grossnickle lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an embankment on the bike path between the Greevey boat launch and the Faxon exit, police said.
Grossnickle exited his vehicle and fled on foot. He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit, police said.
Grossnickle was arraigned before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman, who set bail was set at $75,000.
