Fatal accident on I-80

LAMAR — A two vehicle crash that occurred on Dec. 30 at about 10 a.m. resulted in the death of a passenger of one of the vehicles, state police at Lamar said.

Philip L. Smalley, 82, of Greensburg, and his passenger Doris W. Smalley, 82, were travelling west on I-80 when Smalley attempted to pass a 388 Peterbelt driven by Corey D. Rook, 33, of Campbell, N.Y., police said.

As Smalley was passing Rook’s vehicle he lost control of his 2010 Ford Focus and began sliding sideways down the high way, police said.

Smalley’s vehicle was struck on the front passenger side by Rook’s vehicle, police said.

The vehicle then proceeded to rotate clockwise and was pushed into the guide rail on the south side of the roadway, police said.

Upon police arrival, the driver’s side of Smalley’s vehicle was pinned against the guide rail and the right rear corners of both vehicles were pinned against the passenger side of his vehicle, police said.

The passenger in Smalley’s vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene by Clinton County Coroner Zach Hanna, police said.

Police were assisted on the scene by members of PSP Lamar, Lock Haven EMS, Goodwill Fire and Hose, Sugar Valley EMS, PennDOT, and Valley Collision, police said.

Simple Assault

JERSEY SHORE — Jesse Dean Stahl, of Jersey Shore, was arrested and charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment after an incident that occurred on Dec. 21 at about 2 p.m. at 119 Park Rd., Watson Twp., state police at Montoursville said.

Stahl is accused of head-butting a female victim which caused her nose to bleed. He then pushed the victim into the kitchen stove which caused cuts and bruising on both of her arms, police said.

The victim then reported the incident a few days later when she was at her father’s residence, police said.

Stahl has been place in Lycoming County Prison, police said.

Two vehicle crash

BELLEFONTE — No one was injured in a two vehicle crash that occurred on Dec. 27 at about 10 a.m., state police at Rockview said.

Mykola M. Gorelov, 28, of Upper Chichester, Pa., was travelling west on the General Potter Highway in the area of Brownies Tavern, Potter Township, Centre County, when he had to slow down for stopped/slowed congested traffic, police said.

George S. Moyer, 48, of Harrisburg, was travelling behind Gorelov’s vehicle and did not see the slowed vehicle causing him to strike Gorelov’s 2017 Nissan Rogue with his 2016 Toyota Camry, police said.

Neither Moyer, Gorelov or his four passengers were injured in the accident and all of them were wearing their seatbelts, police said.

Moyer’s vehicle suffered disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Parson’s Towing. Gorelov’s vehicle was able to be driven from the scene under it’s own power, police said.

Moyer was charged with following too closely, police said.

Freightliner accident

BELLEFONTE — Robert L. Stevens, 49, of DuBois, was traveling in the right lane on I-80 west on Dec. 30 at about 7 a.m. when his Freightliner Truck Tractor crossed into the left lane and struck a guide rail, state police at Rockview said.

Stevens’ vehicle jack-knifed and came to final rest in the left lane facing east while his trailer was still facing west, police said.

The vehicle suffered damage to it’s front grill guard, front passenger’s side bumper and passenger’s side quarter panel, police said.

Stevens was not injured in the crash and his vehicle was towed from the scene by Eagle Towing, police said.

Stevens was charged with driving vehicle at safe speed, police said.

Act 64 violation, alleged

BELLEFONTE — State police at Rockview initiated a traffic stop on I-99 North at mile marker 85.6, Spring Twp., Centre County, on Nov. 12 at about 6 p.m.

Throughout the investigation it was found that John Anthony, 18, of Marysville, Pa., was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Aggravated harassment

BELLEFONTE — State Police at Rockview are investigating an incident that occurred on Nov. 16 at about 1 p.m. at the Benner State Correctional Institute.

An inmate is accused of spitting on three corrections officers/staff, police said.

The investigation continues.

One vehicle crash

BELLEFONTE — A one vehicle crash occurred on DEc. 19 at about 7 p.m. on I-80 West at mile marker 154.1, Boggs Twp., Centre County, state police at Rockview said.

Jacob T. Koleno, 20, of Clarence, was travelling on I-80 when he struck a fire hose that was ejected from a Milesburg Fire Dept. fire engine causing disabling damage, police said.

There were no injuries as a result of the crash and no one was charged, police said.

Vehicle travels off roadway

BELLEFONTE — A crash that occurred on Route 2007, Brush Mountain Road, on Dec. 21 at about 8 a.m. may have resulted in one of the passengers being injured, state police at Rockview said.

Kelly L. Ronk, 41, of Spring Mills, was travelling north on Brush Mountain Road when the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan exited the roadway and struck a township sign, guide rail and an embankment on the opposite side of the roadway, police said.

Ronk and both of her passengers were wearing their seatbelts at the time but one of them may have experienced possible injuries, police said.

Penns Valley EMS, Spring Mills Fire Dept., Millheim Fire Dept. and Kuppel’s Towing assisted on the scene.

Ronk was charged with driving on roadways laned for traffic police said.
