Centre man sentenced in child rape case

BELLEFONTE — Gary Cain, 43, of Unionville was sentenced Thursday to 175 to 350 years for the rape and sexual assault of a child, according to the Centre County district attorney’s office.

Cain was found guilty on Nov. 15, 2017, following a two-day trial of multiple counts, including rape, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, sexual assault, corruption of minors, and indecent assault. He was found guilty of sexually assaulting the minor over a period of several years when the child was under the age of 16, the D.A.’s office reports.

Trooper Richard Hoover of the Pennsylvania State Police filed the charges. Assistant District Attorneys Crystal Hundt and Michael Osterberg prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. The Hon. Senior Judge David E. Grine sentenced Cain.

The D.A.’s office is not releasing any other information on the case, due to its sensitive nature.
