Mother charged after baby nearly drowns in bathtub

LOCK HAVEN — Jessica Marie Wetzel, 28, of 131 Youngs Ave., has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment after she left her baby alone in a bathtub and the child nearly drowned, Lock Haven City Police report.

The incident occurred at 7:45 a.m. Monday at the mother’s address.

The mother left her 8-month-old child unattended in the bathtub which resulted in the child almost drowning, police said.

The child was taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville and was released the same day, police said.

Head on collision

MILLHEIM — A State College man was transported to Mt. Nittany Medical Center after a head on collision that occurred on Aug. 5 on the Siglerville Millheim Pike, state police at Rockview said.

Jeremy D. Miller, 41, was traveling north on the dirt roadway, negotiating a left hand turn when his 1991 Honda KR250L entered the opposite lane, police said.

A 2003 Honda Odyssey, driven by Caitlin L. Stoner, 30, of Centre Hall, was traveling south on the roadway when the two vehicle’s collided, police said.

Miller was transported to the hospital for an injury to his left leg and Stoner escaped injury, police said.

Miller faces charges involved with driving on roadways laned for traffic, police said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Kuppel’s Towing, police said.

Drug possession

BELLEFONTE — An inmate known to police was found to be in possession of drugs at the Centre County Correctional Facility, Benner Township, state police at Rockview said.

The inmate is suspected to be in possession of suboxone on July 19 at 2:20 p.m., police said.

Vehicle lands on roof

SNOW SHOE — The driver of a 2010 Dodge Dakota was transported to Mt. Nittany Hospital for suspected minor injuries after a crash that occurred on Aug. 3 at 4:35 p.m., state police at Rockview said.

Jeffrey S. Schmid, 60, of State College, was traveling east on Interstate 80 in the left lane when he lost control of his vehicle as it merged with the right lane, police said.

Schmid’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a ditch before overturning onto it’s roof, police said.

Schmid was transported to the hospital by Snow Show EMS and does not face any charges, police said.

Harassment of

correctional officers

BELLEFONTE — State police at Rockview are investigating an incident of aggravate harassment between an inmate and two correctional officers.

The inmate, known to police, is accused of throwing urine onto the officers, striking them on their clothing and face, police said.

Vehicle strikes embankment

HOWARD — Kristy C. Witherite, 29, of Howard, was traveling on North Eagle Valley Road, Boggs Township, when she lost control of her 2003 Saturn L300 and struck an embankment, causing disabling damage, state police at Rockview said.

The accident occurred on Aug. 8 at 6:18 a.m. and Witherite does not face any charges, police said.

Energy drinks stolen

CENTRE HALL — Sharief Yahyia Abed, 25, of Mingoville, Pa., was charged with retail theft after stealing a Monster energy drink from Sheetz, 106 Savanah Lane, Potter Township, on Aug. 8 at 7:19 a.m., state police at Rockview said.

It was discovered that Yahyia had been stealing drinks from the business for about a month, police said.

Theft reported

SNOW SHOE — State police at Rockview are investigating a theft that occurred in Snow Shoe.

The theft was reported on July 28, police said.
