Theft by extortion
LOCK HAVEN — A Woodward Township resident has allegedly been scammed out of $2,650 after receiving a call from an unknown male claiming to be giving out refunds from Microsoft, according to the Woodward Township Police Department.
The caller advised the refund was to be direct deposited into a checking account, and after providing that information, the caller then instructed the resident to purchase $2,650 in Google gift cards or the caller would take all of the resident’s money from the bank account. The resident complied, police said.
Police urge anyone receiving instructions to obtain gift cards or money orders to stop and call authorities, and to use extreme caution with bank account information.
LOCK HAVEN — Heather L. Hamilton, 36, of Lock Haven, and Chessidy Wayne Hamilton, 33, of Jersey Shore, have been charged with retail theft after they allegedly entered Puff and Snuff, 18 Woodward Ave., Lock Haven, and removed merchandise for sale without paying for it on Feb. 28, police at Woodward Township said. According to police, the value of the items was $3.38.
School bus crashes into
LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven City Police were called to the scene of a school bus crash that took place at 8:14 a.m. on Feb. 27.
According to police, a school bus being driven by Diane Bechdel, 53, of Lock Haven was traveling down Woods Avenue when it left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole. The crash was witnessed by Joshua Fravel, 35, of Lock Haven. According to Fravel, the bus sounded as if it were coasting instead of accelerating.
At the scene, Fravel and another witness pried the doors to the bus open. It was discovered that Bechdel was having a seizure. She was transported to UPMC Lock Haven by EMS.
The bus sustained minor damage to the front bumper. The utility pole was not damaged in the crash.
The investigation continues.
BELLEFONTE — Jennifer Salusky, 39, of Butler, Pa., was arrested after attempting to send drugs into Centre County Prison, state police at Rockview said.
Salusky attempted to send suboxone to her boyfriend who is an inmate on Feb. 11, police said.
BEECH CREEK — Aaron Park, 34, of Lock Haven, was arrested and charged with drug possession after being found in possession of marijuana along North Eagle Valley Road, Liberty Township on Feb. 27, state police at Rockview said.
Charges were filed through district court, police said.
