Blaze destroys Wayne Township home

McELHATTAN — A Wayne Township home was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning, leaving a family of four homeless.

John Eck had aleady left for work and his wife, Jodi, and their two children, Brady, 19, and Mallory, 15, escaped the flames with only the clothes they were wearing.

The home, located at 1868 Aaron Drive, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after 7 a.m. Jodi Eck’s hair salon attached to the home was also destroyed.

A state police fire marshal was at the scene talking with family members and investigating the cause of the fire.

Fire companies responding included Citizen’s Hose (Larry’s Creek), Lock Haven, Wayne Township (McElhattan), Woolrich, Avis, Lock Haven EMS, Beech Creek/Blanchard, Dunnstown and Lamar Township (Salona).

The fire call came in at 7:10 a.m. Fire departments were on scene at 7:25 a.m. The scene was cleared at 11:31.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the home was still smoldering and the American Red Cross was on the scene to help the Eck family.
