Walk by Faith program to start soon

LOCK HAVEN — Penn State Extension is offering a new faith-based program to promote health, called Walk by Faith.

The local partner is Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., but the program is open to all.

Walk by Faith will kick off Tuesday, May 30 with a meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. at Covenant Church.

The faith-based program encourages healthy eating and simple exercise, such as walking, with the goal of helping participants maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of developing cancer. Participants set and track personal health goals.

The program offers an evidence-based opportunity for church members to improve their health and reduce cancer risks, together with the support of their faith community. Scripture is included in the program.

Each participant will receive:

r Educational sessions on healthy eating, weight management, physical activity and walking.

r Guidance for healthy eating and activity goal setting.

r A pedometer.

r Calorie King calorie, fat and carbohydrate counters.

The WbF program includes information, events and activities for additional motivation and support, including group walking and healthy potlucks.

And, after the kick-off May 30, three other, educational sessions are scheduled, on Tuesdays, June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15, all to be held from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Covenant Church lounge.
