Community responds to Operation Christmas Child

LOCK HAVEN — The community joined in Operation Christmas Child in a big way this year, filling shoe boxes with little gifts for children in need around the world.

For the 10th year, the House of the Lord Fellowship Church on West Main Street served as a drop-off site for the shoe boxes during the ministry’s national collection week, and a total of 2,122 shoe boxes were received there. Many of the boxes have already been processed at the Baltimore OCC processing center and are on their way to Ukraine and other countries, according to Sarah Snyder, area coordinator.

Donors gave from more than 35 churches (with several new to the project, and some from Renovo and Woolrich), eight schools and-or classes, a few area businesses and organizations, and many families and individuals, she reported.

More than 45 volunteers from the church and community logged more than 450 hours in the eight days of collection week, she added.
