Weekly Lenten services listed
Communities in our region gather together for Lenten services and events during these weeks of preparation leading to Easter Sunday, April 1.
UNITED METHODIST CHURCHES
The Lord’s Prayer Community Lenten Service Series for United Methodist churches between Lock Haven and Jersey Shore, continues Sunday at 4 p.m. with Avis United Methodist Church hosting.
Each week a pastor preaches from a portion of the Lord’s Prayer. Preacher Roger Yoder brings the message tomorrow on “Hallowed be thy name.” Preachers rotate among the participating United Methodist clergy and the congregations of Farrandsville, Avis, Phelps Chapel, Woolrich, McElhattan, Liberty, Dunnstown, and Swissdale.
Locations rotate among the churches. Everyone is invited.

Feb. 25 — At Phelps Chapel with Pastor Joe Hopkins.
March 4 — At Woolrich with Pastor Sharon Weaver.
March 11 — At Swissdale with Pastor Samantha McElwee.
March 18 — At Farrandsville with Pastor Dave McElwee.
March 25 — At McElhattan with Pastor Cody Phillips.
March 29 — Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. at Woolrich with Pastor Cody Phillips.
March 30 — Good Friday service at 7 p.m. at Dunnstown with Pastor Joe Hopkins.
Lamar United Methodist Church will again host the Nittany Valley Fellowship services, Sundays at 7 p.m. with other churches participating.
Glenda McMann will be the organist for most of the services. This year, gluten-free wafers will be available. The offerings will be split between the local Red Cross offices for Centre and Clinton counties.
The schedule follows:
Feb. 18 — St. Paul Lutheran has the Communion, the service, special music and refreshments. Rev. Karl Runser will give a monologue as Joseph of Arimathea, and Dave Benner will portray Peter.
Feb. 25 — Trinity Reformed Church will present special music, and Clintondale United Methodist has the refreshments. Alan Hagen will give a monologue as “The Sneering Ruler,” and Dave Benner will portray Peter.
March 4 — Clintondale United Methodist has the Communion and the service, and Trinity Reformed has the refreshments. Pastor Frank Harpster will give a monologue as John, and Dave Benner will portray Peter.
March 11 — Lamar United Methodist has the Communion and the service, Clintondale United Methodist will present special music, and St. Mark Lutheran has the refreshments. The monologue will be of “A Person in the Crowd.”
March 18 — St. Mark Lutheran has the Communion, the service and special music, and there will be refreshments. Elaine Miller will give a monologue as Mary, mother of Jesus.
Local churches will host community Lenten lunches each Wednesday at noon, free and open to the public. The schedule is:

Feb. 28 — At Liberty Baptist Church with Becca Melzer speaking.
March 7 — At Faith Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Alan Eckenrode speaking.
March 14 — At Beech Creek Wesleyan Church with Pastor Chris Davis speaking.
JS AREA LUTHERANS
Weekly sessions for Jersey Shore area Lutherans are offered Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. and include soup, sandwiches and worship. Churches take turns hosting the sessions. The theme this year is “Were you there?”

Feb. 28 — At St. John Lutheran Church.
March 7 — At Grace Lutheran Church.
March 14 — At St. John Lutheran.
March 21 — At Garman Lutheran.
March 28 — Stations of the Cross, 7 p.m. at St. James Lutheran.
March 29 — Maundy Thursday service, 7 p.m. at Garman Lutheran.
March 30 — Good Friday service, 7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran.
April 1 — Easter Sunday, 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. at St. John Lutheran, with breakfast after the 6 a.m. service
Community services will be held at 7 p.m. on four Wednesdays in Lent, with churches taking turns as host. The schedule is:

Weekly services for the Sugar Valley community are held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The schedule follows:

Feb. 28 — St. John’s United Church of Christ, Tylersville.
March 7 — Loganton Wesleyan Church.
March 14 — Eastville Church of the Brethren.
March 21 — St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Loganton.

Catholic churches in Clinton County offer Stations of the Cross every week during Lent, on this schedule:
Tuesdays – 9 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish Immaculate Conception Church, Lock Haven.
Wednesdays — 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Renovo.
Fridays — 7 p.m. at Holy Spirit Parish St. Agnes Church, Lock Haven.
