AREA CHURCH BRIEFS
plans big expansion
BLANCHARD — The congregation of Blanchard Church of Christ is encouraged to attend a church board meeting in the sanctuary at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 22 on plans to expand the church day care.
In God’s Hands Daycare at the church is looking to fund a $315,000 expansion of 4,100 square feet so it can operate in one facility and serve children on its constantly growing waiting list.
Church members also will be able to vote about the expansion on July 22.
That day is also Parent and Baby Dedication Day and will include a service of commitment and dedication for parents to commit to raise their children for the Lord and the congregation to commit to help them along the way.
Also, children who participated in Little K Camp and King’s Kids Camp will lead worship in both services.
BEUP to hear
Appalachian Trail adventures
MILL HALL — Polly Chatterton will speak about her adventures on the Appalachian Trail during the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at her church, Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church, 111 Main St.
She recently decided she wanted to work on something on her “bucket list,” so at the age of 63, she and two of her sisters tackled the Appalachian Trail. They called their group Sisters on the Trail and left home in late June.
The congregation has wanted to walk vicariously with Chatterton, Pastor Susan Champion said, so each day, Chatterton sent pictures and e-mails and each week the
church mapped the sisters’ progress and prayed for them.
The trail is 1,200-plus miles long, so Chatterton hasn’t finished it yet, but she already has stories to tell, about the shelters, the food that has to be 10 feet off the ground so the bears don’t eat it, and more.
All members of the community who have the Appalachian Trail on their bucket list are invited to come hear Chatterton talk about her once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The church is handicap accessible.
The morning message will be “If You’re Going the Wrong Way… Turn Around.”
