Winter weather advisory issued

2 to 5 inches of snow forecast

LOCK HAVEN – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory lasting from 10 tonight to 10 a.m. Thursday for much of Central Pennsylvania.

A storm that will sweep across the Northeast will bring some rain mixed with sleet tonight before changing to all snow overnight.

“The heaviest snow will fall from midnight into the predawn hours. Rates of 1 inch per hour possible. The heaviest snow ends by daybreak with snow tapering off by mid morning. Total snow accumulation 2 to 5 inches,” forecasters said.

Temperatures will fall below freezing tonight, with 25 to 30 mph wind gusts into the afternoon Thursday.

The storm will cause “hazardous travel conditions on snow covered roads with low visibility … and longer commute times Thursday morning with reduced speeds,” forecasters said.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reminds motorists to adjust speeds based on driving conditions and to take it slow in ice and snow.
