Fire rips through home in Woodward Township

LAURA JAMESON/THE EXPRESS A firefighter and an unidentified man get a closer look at the home as flames shoot from the front windows.

DUNNSTOWN – A family home was destroyed by a fast-moving fire this afternoon.

Multiple fire companies were called to the blaze to provide water because there were not hydrants near the home along Shirk Addition Lane.

In fact, the closest hydrant was nearly a half-mile away at Coudersport Pike and Mill Hill Road.

Tanker trucks were shuttled to the scene.

Firefighters from across Clinton County responded, taking turns entering the home amid thick, billowing smoke that made conditions perilous.

Flames periodically shot high into the sky as firefighters poured water into the brick, ranch-style home.

The fire was reported about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, apparently by the homeowner or a neighbor.
