Fireworks set for holiday and weekend

BANG! BOOM! POW!

A fireworks show is one of the cornerstones of celebrating the Fourth of July. The larger celebrations in our area are happening on July 4, while smaller communities are holding their fireworks shows later.

WILLIAMSPORT — Downtown Williamsport is hosting “Set the Night to Music Fireworks Extravaganza” at the Hampton Inn downtown July 4. The festivities are set to run all day, with free entertainment, food and craft vendors. Bands start at 3 p.m. with fireworks beginning at 9:45 p.m.

The Market Street Bridge will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic on July 4 from 8 p.m. until approximately 10:30 p.m. for the fireworks and cleanup.

Also the “River Walk” will be closed from 7:30 a.m. from July 4 through 7:30 a.m. July 5th from Commerce Park to Maynard Street on the Williamsport side of the river. Restrictions will be in place on the South Williamsport side of the river as well due to safety concerns. Also, the PA Fish & Game Commission will keep all craft off the river 1,000 feet east and west of the Market St. Bridge citing safety concerns.

Handicap parking is in the first floor of the parking deck on Third and Church Streets. River Valley Transit will offer free bus rides from all city parking lots to the fireworks area from 6 p.m. through 10 p.m. with pickups every 10 minutes.

STATE COLLEGE — Celebrate the Fourth of July at Central PA’s 4th Fest Celebration will be held July 4 from 9 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. in the Towne Square and by Beaver Stadium in the Celebrations area.

Chainsaw woodcarving, puppet shows, Sky’s the Limit Balloon rides, kids crafts, face painting, BMX Bike and Rollerbladers stunt show, food a Firecracker 4K race and Parade of Heroes will be available throughout the day starting at 1 p.m. with the parade starting at 2 p.m.

The Firecracker 4K race will start the day, beginning at 9 a.m.

Fireworks will close out the event at 9:15 p.m. at Beaver Stadium.

LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven area’s fireworks show will be a week later during Riverfest at the Lockport Boat Launch in Woodward Township.

Riverfest is an annual event that helps raise funds for Riverview Park, family recreation and Dunnstown Firefighters. This event includes cardboard boat races, live music, food and arts and crafts vendors from Thursday, July 12 to July 14.

The fireworks show will take place Saturday evening July 14 at 10 p.m. and will mark the end of the event.

JERSEY SHORE — Jersey Shore’s annual Town Meeting will end on Saturday evening July 7 with a fireworks show at 9:45 p.m. Both ground and aerial fireworks will be presented to celebrate the end to a week of fun, food and patriotism.
