Groves sentenced to 10 to 20 years
LOCK HAVEN – Loyd W. Groves, who was found guilty of third degree murder on Dec. 3, 2018, was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in state prison for the murder of Kathy Dolan Heckel Thursday evening.
Senior Judge Kenneth Brown, who presided over the case, imposed the maximum sentence set in place in 1991 when the murder took place.
Since then the maximum sentence for murder in the third degree has increased to 20 to 40 but because the date of the crime was in 1991 it did not apply, Brown said.
Groves will be given almost four years worth of credit for time served in the Clinton County Correctional Facility while he awaited trial.
