George L. Meyer

George L. Meyer, 80, of 112 Pine St., Howard, died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at ManorCare Health Center, Jersey Shore.

He was born Jan. 15, 1933 in Lamar, a son of the late Jarvis and Grace Nihart Meyer. On July 12, 1954, he married Guilia Louise “Patty” Allen, who died Dec. 9, 2004.

George had worked for DeCamp Bus Lines in New Jersey for 35 years and retired from Truck Stops of America, Lamar in 2003 where he was a diesel mechanic. He was a member of Teamsters Local 945.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. George enjoyed doing yard work and going ‘spotlighting.’ He had been a social member of the Sons of Italy, the VFW and American Legion, both in Lock Haven, the 40/8 Club and the Castanea Fire Co.

He is survived by four sons, Michael and John Meyer, both of Howard, Eric Meyer of Jacksonville, Ala. and Guy Meyer of Indiana; three daughters, Georgeanne (Richard) Gerlitz of North Carolina, Lori (Leonard) Sanders of Liberty, N.Y. and Trisha (Mark) Seville of Lamar; 34 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory, in 2003; four brothers, Donald, Jarvis, Dean and Charles Meyer; seven sisters, Maxine Hoch, Ida Poteigel, Mildred Miller, Mary Miller, Ruth Wolf, Peggy Fuller and Thelma Meyer.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 in the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall. Pastor Joan Gordon will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Bethel Cemetery, Mill Hall. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital through the funeral home.
