Doris Elaine Whitesel Kilmer
Doris Elaine Whitesel Kilmer, 89, of Woolrich went to be with the Lord June 28, 2016, at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
She was born in Juniata County Sept. 4, 1926, to the late Stanley B. and Grace M. Stydinger Whitesel. She was united in marriage to William S. Kilmer of Port Royal Aug. 16, 1958, who preceded her in death January 1959.
Doris had worked as a registered nurse and had done private duty nursing for the late Mr. Piper. She had also worked for Piper Aircraft Corp as a relief nurse for a number of years. Mrs. Kilmer had worked for Travelers Insurance in Lock Haven, Green Thumb, and had last worked for the Community Nursing in Lock Haven, retiring at the age of 83. She was a member of the Cedar Heights Brethren In Christ Church where she had been an active Sunday school teacher. She had also been involved with the Pioneer Girls and the Women’s Sewing circle.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Elaine (George T.) Force; two grandchildren, Elizabeth E. Stern and Joseph T. Force; and four great-grandchildren, Haeli, Amelia, Gabriel and Eilah Stern. Also surviving is a sister, Miriam Whitesel Yoder. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred, Wilbur and Rodney Whitesel; and a sister, Violet Whitesel Long.
Doris enjoyed handcrafts, knitting, quilting, crocheting, tatting, tooling leather and cross-stitch. She had taught a number of classes on handcrafts.
She had many nieces, nephews and friends that she enjoyed and loved very much and was also known as “Aunt Dee.”
Memorial services for Doris Elaine Kilmer will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at 3 p.m. in the Cedar Heights Brethren In Christ Church, 37 Cedar Heights, Mill Hall. Officiating will be nephews Lynn Whitesel, Ken Abell and Chad Long. Family and friends will be received in the church beginning at 2 p.m. A meal will be provided following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Doris’s name can be made to the church.
