David J. Selfe

David J. Selfe of Woolrich, the son of John A. and Vera G. Selfe of Lock Haven, was born July 29, 1931, and died on June 21, 2016.

Mr. Selfe was a 1950 graduate of the Lock Haven High School, enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 where he served as a B-29 Crew Chief with the 93 (Sac) Division stationed in Japan; then transferred to the states of Texas and California until his discharge in 1954.

Mr. Selfe joined the Air National Guard (A.N.G.) 112th Tactical Control Squadron in 1957 at State College, where he served as a ground equipment repairman, supervisor and Master Sargent, until 1960. He rejoined the A.N.G. in 1973 as an aerospace equipment repairman and was deployed to Turkey, Italy and Denmark, retiring from service in 1990.

Mr. Selfe was employed at the Piper Aircraft Airport and the Lycoming Air Service as an aeronautics mechanic. He also owned and operated Selfe’s Engine Service in Woolrich.

He was a member of the Woolrich Community Church, the American Legion, and a life member of the D.A.V.

Mr. Selfe was preceded in death by two sons, David L. Selfe of Lock Haven and Stephen C. Selfe of Alaska.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley; two daughters, Gayla J. Selfe of Flemington and Susan (Marvin) Brown of Farrandsville; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Mr. Selfe will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, with Rev. Alan Eckenroad officiating.
