Charles R. “Chuck” Bowmaster passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, surrounded by his family and loved ones in his Falls Church, Va., home.

Born and raised in the Lock Haven/Avis area, Chuck was a 40-year resident of the city of Falls Church. Upon graduation from Jersey Shore High School in 1947, Chuck served four years in the Air Force and later earned degrees from both Shephard College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical College.

Chuck was a member of Falls Church American Legion Post 130, McLean VFW Post 824, and Arlington-Fairfax Elks Lodge.

A life-long government employee, Chuck worked for 29 years as an air traffic controller at both Washington National Airport and later the Leesburg Control Center.

Chuck is survived by his devoted and loving companion Fatima Neto; son Charles Bowmaster, Jr. (Paula); step-daughter Thea Terranova (Sam); and grandchildren Jason, Heather, Laura, Joe and Erin. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church, Va., on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m., with Monsignor Frank E. Mahler officiating. Final services will be held privately at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
