Catherine L. Packard

Catherine L. Packard, 84, of Jersey Shore passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Avis on June 10, 1932, a daughter of the late Robert L.  and Edith (Nichols) Truax.

Catherine graduated from Jersey Shore Senior High School, Class of 1950.

On Aug. 16, 1951, she married Richard Packard, and they shared 58 years of marriage until he passed away in 2009.

Being a Navy wife, Catherine was very active in the Navy Wives group called The USS Sally Wives and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Catherine and her husband were known as snowbirds in their retired years who traveled extensively, visiting Germany and many other places; they both enjoyed traveling and at one time owned their own plane.

Catherine loved to go bowling, ride golf carts and put together puzzles. Most of all, Catherine enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children, having visits from her grandchildren and spending time with her large family.

Catherine is survived by six children, Mike (Lori) of Avis, Candy of Pensacola, Fla., Ronald (Julie) and Tom (Terry), both of Jersey Shore, Fred of Flemington and Donna of South Williamsport; two brothers, Lawrence and John Truax; four sisters, Joanne Fisher, Wanda Letterman, June Getgen and Shirley Chapman; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband and two brothers, Rich and Donald Truax; three sisters, Margarite Johnson, Margaret Welshans and Marion Young; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A Tribute of Catherine’s life will be held at Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, Wednesday, Nov. 9, starting with a public viewing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and followed by a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Pastor Ryan Reigh of Family Worship Center in Bloomsburg will officiate.
