Joseph ‘Joe’ J. Gardner

Joseph Junior “Joe” Gardner, 88, of Pleasant Gap passed away on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016.

He was one of 12 children born to Merril Bliss and Laura May Saltsman Gardner on June 4, 1928, on Jacksonville Road, Howard.

Joe was united in marriage to Caroline May Hollobaugh on Aug. 2, 1948; she survives at home.

The “Tree Man” was employed by Penn State University from 1948 through 1992 as an arborist/tree surgeon. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, he also enjoyed over 50 years of league bowling. He was a member of the Pleasant Gap United methodist Church, Fire Department, American Legion Auxillary, Lions Club, and F.O.P. 52 of Bald Eagle.

Along with his wife he is survived by a son, Joseph Paul “J.P.” and Julia Gardner of Pleasant Gap; two daughters, Marie and Terry Yearick of Spring Mills and Debbie and Russell Lucas of Pleasant Gap; son, Tim and Lisa Gardner of Bellefonte; and a son-in-law, Edward Stevens of Pine Grove Mills; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and well over 100 great-nieces and -nephews who called him Uncle Joe. He is also survived by brothers Paul Jackson “Jack” and Beverly Gardner of Howard, and Dennis Ray Gardner Sr. of Grameco, N.M.; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Lyons Sr. of Bellefonte.

He was preceded by his parents, two brothers, seven sisters, an infant son, a daughter, two nieces and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at 10 a.m. at The Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, 179 S. Main St.

Friends will be received on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main St., Howard.

Burial will be at Zion Cemetery.
