Roger Lewis Matthews

Roger Lewis Matthews, 89, of Avis went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital.

Born July 7, 1927, in Boise, Idaho, to Jay Ira Matthews and Bessie Marilla Osborn, he was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.

Roger graduated from Boise High School and attended college in California. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a Principal Field Service Engineer for the Fort Worth Division of The General Dynamics Corporation and traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe for his jobs. By the time he retired, he was responsible for the field service office and the Air Force F-16 test program site at Edwards AFB.

He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Maine from which he received his 50-year emblem March 12, 2012. He was awarded the Simon Greenleaf Medal from Limestone Lodge No. 214 in 1968.

Roger is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Jean Matthews; his children, Peter Milton Drake (Thomas Horvath) of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Michelle Morgan Drake of Annapolis, Md.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was an active member of The Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church and a former Clerk of Session and Church Elder. He loved the Lord very much.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. at The Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St., Jersey Shore, Pa. 17740.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, Pa. 17701.
