Clayone (Kline) Tweed

Clayone (Kline) Tweed, 91, of 201 Richey St., Lock Haven, and for the past eight years Riverview Manor, Lewisburg, peacefully passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, one day before her birthday, at Riverwoods Nursing Center, Lewisburg.

Clayone was born in Lock Haven on Feb. 27, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Gladys (Bettens) Kline.

On Jan. 1, 1947, she married Glenn R. Tweed, who preceded her in death on May 22, 1998. For their 50th anniversary they renewed their wedding vows with Rev. Richard Hinkelman, the best man in their wedding, officiating.

Clayone was an active member of Covenant United Methodist Church, as well as the former Trinity United Methodist Church, both of Lock Haven. After moving to Riverview Manor she became an associate member of Beaver United Methodist Church, Lewisburg, and had most recently attended worship from Marlow Hall in the Riverwoods Nursing Center. She was involved in Bible studies in her communities in Lock Haven and Riverwoods.

Clayone graduated from Lock Haven High School and received her nurses training through Lock Haven Hospital, Geisinger Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She was in the military nurse training program, but World War II ended before she could serve as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a private duty nurse at Lock Haven Hospital, and later for Dr. George Treires and Dr. Victoria Romeo. She worked at various summer camps as a nurse also. She volunteered for many years for the Red Cross Bloodmobiles. She commonly reminded her nurses at Riverwoods that she was a retired R.N.

Clayone worked for Piper Aircraft in the 1940s, where she learned to fly Piper planes, just short of her solo flight to receive her pilot’s license.

Clayone was a very active volunteer, including for the Heisey Museum and Ross Library in Lock Haven and the Library at Ridgecrest in Lewisburg. She was a den leader for Cub Scouts, a PTA member, and a volunteer with the Rainbow Girls and Lockettes drill team. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Silver Circle.

She was on the go much of the time, whether playing golf at various courses in the area, enjoying swimming, or traveling throughout the United States as well as the world.

With her skills for sewing and knitting, she enjoyed sewing everything from doll clothes to wedding dresses, and knitting prayer shawls, scarves, hats, mittens and sweaters.

As an avid Penn State fan, she was a 40-year season ticket holder for home Nittany Lion football games.

Clayone is survived by a son, Stephen C. Tweed and his wife Elizabeth, of Kentucky; a daughter, Lisa A. Mitchell and her husband David, of Bloomsburg; six grandchildren, Jason C. Tweed, his wife Kristen, and their children Ainsley and Jason A., of Northumberland; Jennifer A. DeGennaro, her husband Vince, and their sons Vincent and Lucas, of Galloway, N.J.; Jill E. Scott her husband Jacob, and their sons Alexander and Julius, of Pittsburgh; Katheryn G. Boobar and her husband Matthew, of South Londonderry, Vermont; Daniel G. Mitchell, his wife Sandra, and their sons Garrett and Cooper, of Butler; and Kevin G. Mitchell of Bloomsburg. She is also survived by her Japanese daughter, Keiko (Hayakawa) Mitsuhashi, her husband Masayuki, and their daughters, Noyuri, Noriko and Kazuki, all of Tokyo.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Kline.
