Elizabeth Louise Stahley

Elizabeth Louise Stahley, age 86, a resident of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away on March 21, 2017, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1930, to John and Helen Redis in Erie. She grew up in South Renovo, and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Renovo. While in high school she worked at The Renovo Record and was her high school yearbook editor.

After graduation she worked in Philadelphia for The Philadelphia Inquirer and Sun Life Insurance, and in Emporium for Sylvania. Bette married Marvin Stahley at St. Joseph’s Church in Renovo on May 25, 1957.

She is survived by four sons and their spouses, Todd (Mary) Stahley of Bartlesville, Okla., Tim (Linda) Stahley of State College, Scott (Iwona) Stahley of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Robert (Carla) Stahley of Odessa, Fla.; five siblings, Marjorie Massaro of South Renovo, Jeanne Cavaliere of New Columbia, John Redis of South Renovo, Mary Gregory of Mogadore, Ohio, and Susan Redis of South Renovo; 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Eric, Jeremy, Evan, Olivia, Ethan, Ian, Oksana, Sebastjan, Natasza, Natalya and Nickolaj; many loving nieces and nephews; and one aunt, Lucille Toub. In addition to her beloved husband, Bette was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Michael Redis; one sister, Alice Hevner; and one daughter, Beth Ann.

Bette was a licensed insurance agent, having worked for many years for Reilley Insurance in Renovo and at an insurance office in Vero Beach, Fla. She retired from the insurance business shortly after the passing of her husband in 1989. She enjoyed detailed work and was proud of her exquisite penmanship. Bette was an avid reader, a seasoned Bingo player, loved crossword puzzles and could occasionally be spotted in a casino. However, she most enjoyed being an excellent homemaker, raising her four boys and spending time with her 12 grandchildren.

While she spent most of her life in Pennsylvania, she moved with her family from Pennsylvania to Florida in 1984 due to Piper aircraft consolidation affecting her husband’s job.

She will be returned to Pennsylvania for services and burial. The family will receive relatives and friends at Maxwell Funeral Home on Friday, March 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a reflection of memories tribute at 7:30 p.m. by the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 925 Heron Ave., Renovo, with Rev. Donald Dusza officiating. Burial will directly follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hyner.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to either Bucktail Medical Center, or the St. Joseph’s Church Improvement Fund (both in Renovo), or the American Heart Association.
