Dale S. Bickel

Dale S. Bickel, 84, passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at Nippenose Valley Village.

He was married on April 9, 1955 to the former Jeanne M. Hoffman, who survives, and they have celebrated 62 Ω years as husband and wife.

Dale was born on Jan. 9, 1933 in White Pine and was a son of the late Edward and Letha (Wesenforth) Bickel.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War.

He had worked as a supervisor in the sheet metal division of Brodart’s, retiring in 2002.

Dale was a former member of the VFW, American Legion and Elks. He was a founding member of the Shrewsberry Hunting Club and enjoyed hunting, coin collecting and eagle figurines.

In addition to his wife, Jeanne, he is survived by six daughters, Deborah Vanemon (Steve) of Jersey Shore, Linda Dunkle (Neil) of Jersey Shore, Christine Christian (Edward) of Cogan Station, Karen Bower (Paul) of Williamsport, Lori Vanemon (Melvin) of Jersey Shore, and Barbara Cohick (Timothy) of Rindge, N.H.; 11 grandchildren, Shannon Vanemon Lynn, Jason Vanemon, Kristen Welsh Calhoun, Michael Welsh, Phillip Havens, Justin Havens, Brandie Havens Williams, Amy Vanemon Seltzer, Ashley Vanemon Stover, Alanna Vanemon and Nicole Cohick Dennis; and 10 great- grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rebecca Cohick; one brother, Charles Bickel; one grandson, John W. Calhoun, III; two sisters, Betty Long and Janet Jovan; and beloved brother-in-law Bud Hoffman.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Grace Fellowship Church, 19 West Ridge St., Avis. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
