Robert James “Pop Pop” Gallagher, Sr., 82, of Avis passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017 at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital.

Born on Nov. 28, 1934 in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late Harry Sr. and Mildred Grace Showers Gallagher.

Robert was a 1952 graduate of Lock Haven High School.

On Jan. 28, 1955, he married the former Jean Meradith Chilcot, who survives.

Robert was employed as a Department Manager at Hammermill Paper Co. and then International Paper Co. for 38 years before retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Flemington United Methodist Church.

Robert was also a member of the Lock Haven Moose Club.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing cards, and listening to country music, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Penn State fan.

In addition to his wife, Jean Gallagher of Avis, he is survived by three sons: Robert Gallagher, Jr. of Emmaus, Terry (Terri) Gallagher of Avis, and Randy Gallagher of Jersey Shore; a daughter, Vicki (George) Troni of Duncannon; two brothers, Harry (Jean) Gallagher, Jr. of Morrisville and Ronald (Sandra) Gallagher of Mill Hall; a sister, Doris (Michael) Gallagher of Lock Haven; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Gallagher.

A private service will take place at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, with Pastor Rick Conklin, a nephew of Robert, officiating. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.
