Joseph L. Hensel

Joseph L. Hensel, 94, of Lock Haven passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport.

Born on Sept. 8, 1923, in Ramey, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Anna F. Kost Hensel.

Joseph was a 1941 graduate of Bigler Township High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the European Theatre during World War II.

On Sept. 17, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Renovo, Father Hipp united Joseph and the former Pauline M. Gutt in marriage.

For over 31 years Joseph was employed as a Prudential Life Insurance agent, retiring in 1983.

Joseph was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish where he sang in the St. Agnes Church Choir, served nine years on the Parish Council, and was active in the annual St. Agnes Fair.

He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1951 while living in Renovo and later became a member of the Lock Haven branch. He held various positions including Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, trustee, and treasurer.

Joseph was an avid blood donor.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Pauline M. Hensel of Lock Haven; his daughter, Marie Elise Hensel of Mill Hall; a nephew and four nieces.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Sister M. Noreen, SND, Margaret Hanzel and Mary Snyder, and a brother, George Hensel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven, with Rev. Father Joseph Orr officiating. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Lock Haven.

Friends and family will be received at the Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2017, from 6 until 8 p.m.
